What is KYC verification?
An explanation of Know Your Customer (KYC) and why GatSwap requires it.
KYC stands for Know Your Customer. It's a federal requirement for financial services and, in the context of firearms, a responsible practice that ensures platforms like GatSwap don't facilitate transfers to prohibited persons.
GatSwap's KYC process verifies your legal name, age (you must be 18+ for long guns and 21+ for handguns), and identity against your government-issued ID. It's a one-time process per account.
What KYC does not do
- KYC verification is not a background check and does not replace the NICS check at the FFL.
- KYC does not access your credit or financial history.
- KYC does not determine your eligibility to own a firearm — that is determined by the FFL at transfer.
