How long does a typical trade take?

Expected timelines for each stage of a GatSwap trade.

Most GatSwap trades complete within 7–14 days from agreement to firearm in hand. Here's what drives the timeline:

Typical stages

  • Trade proposal to acceptance: 1–3 days (depends on both parties responding)
  • FFL selection and shipping prep: 1–2 days
  • Shipping to FFL: 2–5 business days (licensed carrier required)
  • NICS background check: usually instant, occasionally 1–3 business days if delayed
  • FFL processing and pickup: same day to 1 business day

NICS delays are the most common cause of extended timelines. If a check is delayed, the FFL will contact you with next steps. In most states, if the check is not resolved within 3 business days, the FFL may choose to transfer the firearm under the 'Brady Act default proceed' rule.

GatSwap sends real-time push notifications when your firearm ships, arrives at the FFL, and is cleared for pickup.
