What is Form 4473?
A guide to ATF Form 4473, the Firearms Transaction Record.
ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record) is the federal form completed at the FFL when you receive a firearm. Every GatSwap transfer requires one.
What the form asks
- Your full legal name, address, and date of birth
- Whether you are the actual buyer (not purchasing on someone else's behalf)
- Citizenship status
- Whether you are a prohibited person under federal law (felon, domestic violence conviction, adjudicated mental defective, etc.)
Lying on Form 4473 is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The FFL is required to retain completed 4473s for a minimum of 20 years.
GatSwap does not see or store your completed 4473. It's completed in person at the FFL and retained by them per ATF requirements.
